We hope you will consider supporting the Catamount Trail Association by donating to our first ever Vermont Backcountry Challenge! Vermont is where we both discovered our love of backcountry skiing which becomes the center of our lives each winter. The CTA is an intergral part of the Vermont backcountry community and a leader in providing opportunities for anyone to get outside and enjoy the backcountry. Some of the CTA activities we have enjoyed most are skinning sections of the Catamount Trail and the weekly Bolton Skimo races.

For our Backcountry Challenge we are attempting to link many of the classic descents from Bolton to Smuggler's Notch in a single tour. The tour crisscrosses the Catamount Trail and will include classic lines such as the Steeple Trail, Bruce Trail, Hell Brook, and Stoweview Chutes. In total it is at least 20 miles and over 9000 vertical feet of skiing! We are both pretty excited about this Challenge as it will undoubtedly be the longest single day tour either of us has completed.

The Vermont Backcountry Challenge is an opportunity to give back to the backcountry community here in Vermont. The CTA has spent the last 35+ years working to protect our wild spaces, make possible amazing outdoor winter experiences, and expand access to the outdoors for all communities. This work enhances the lives of every person in Vermont and is a large part of why Vermont is such a wonderful place to spend time.
